Corporations are Entities, but are they Really?
Webster defines it this way, "A large business or organization that under the law has the rights and duties of an individual and follows a specific purpose." Because most corporations are acting in behalf of their shareholders, it acts as an individual assuming the same rights. The right to distrust, self-destruct, misuse and abuse, and all of the other behaviors we can engage in which can be out of character. It also has the right to respect, support, love, care, and create in its pursuit of happiness. One thing is for sure, money (revenues) make a corporation happy.
Somewhere in the evolution of corporations’ competition became destructive rather than constructive. We are told it is good to have some level of fear and blind allegiance will be good for the whole. In many cases this is true. If it is not revenue added value then it is not valued. Yes, there are many scholars who can give you statistical probabilities, but are we so easily read through formulas? Or can individual contributions blow away the probabilities. There are those who believe the "one in a million" story can result in a magic moment adding value to the whole when given the chance to breathe. And no, it doesn’t have to compromise corporate profits. It boils down to how we value people in the pursuit of happiness.
